EMP-3

Portable Mercury Survey Meter
Compact, sensitive and accurate
EMP-3 is our 3rd generation of Field-Portable Mercury Survey Meter that is designed for on-site measurement of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) in workplace ambient air for occupational safety, health, and hygiene.
Applications
Mostly employed for workplace air measurement for occupational safety. It can be used for direct measurement of gaseous elemental mercury in natural gas, shale gas, and LPG from Tedlar bag, etc.
Guidelines
WHO | ACGIH | OSHA | USEPA | NIOSH | ATSDR and more
Features
User-Friendly – Easy to Use Touchscreen Graphical User Interface (GUI)
EMP-3 is equipped with a very user-friendly and responsive interface – 4.3’ LCD High-Resolution Color Touchscreen. All functional buttons are available on the same screen, allowing for easy field operation and enhancing every user’s experience. The LCD screen is also splash-proof.
Anyone can learn and operate EMP-3 with ease!

Superior Detection Range – Detection Limit from 0 to 2000 µg/m3
With NIC’s continual optics design research and advancement, the new generation EMP-3 is equipped with an extended linear detection range of up to 2,000 µg/m3. Such a wide dynamic detection range enables users to cover a broad range of applications, responding quickly to pressing situations.
Fully Functional & Accurate Portable Mercury Survey Meter
EMP-3 is equipped with a robust and highly sensitive non-dispersive double-beam cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CVAAS) detector for mercury measurement. All gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) that is drawn into EMP-3 is measured by the absorbance at wavelength 253.7 nm.
Built-in GPS Function – Measurement with Peace of Mind
To conduct multiples measurements in the field, it is rather bothersome and inconvenient to take note of every location data to the measurement readings manually.
EMP-3 is now equipped with a built-in GPS where every mercury measurement done by the EMP-3 will also record the set of coordinates of that measuring location simultaneously with the mercury reading. This helps make the handling and operating process easier and provide users with peace of mind.
Incredible Field-Portability
Light-Weight & Compact
EMP-3 weighs only 1.6 kg and has a comfortable, streamlined body with a dimension of 207W x 115D x 140H (mm). It is well-designed to sling around the body as a handy and compact device for field operation.
Convenient – Powered by battery
With its compact and lightweight body, the battery-operated EMP-3 meter can be conveniently transported and used in the field where electricity source is scarce or unavailable. All on-site mercury measurement is made possible and convenient.
Options - Expanding Applications
Mercury vapor can be present in different concentration levels, depending on whether mercury is used as raw materials in the production process or as a by-product, polluting the environment as gaseous to the air or liquid to the effluent.
On-site mercury measurement needs can be slightly unpredictable. EMP-3 has the versatility to configure for expanded applications.

How does it work?
Utilizing the concept of dynamic flow dilution, the Hi-Lutor option extends the EMP-3 measuring range up to 20,000 µg/m3, allowing mercury measurements in areas that have unexceptionally high mercury levels. Thus, showcasing the versatility of the EMP-3 survey meter. -

How does it work?
AQUA Kit is made available to enable EMP-3 to function as a detector for aqueous reducing vaporization CVAAS measurement, performing sub-ppb detection levels measurement on-site.Applications
Drinking Water | Lake Water | River Water | Waste Effluent and moreMethods
USEPA 245.1, 245.2, 245.5, 7470A, 7471B | EN-1483 | ASTM D 3223-17 | APHA 3112 | JIS K0102 | ISO 12846 and moreAQUA Kit is a manual setup of Reducing Vaporization Technique using an impinger set.
The sample tube is filled with the desired aqueous sample. Reducing agent SnCl2 and H2SO4 are added into the sample tube to convert all Hg2+ into Hg0.
Sn2+ + Hg2+ → Hg0 + Sn4+Hg0 is purged from the sample solution and is transferred into CVAAS detector for measurement.
Detection is capable down to the low parts-per-billion (ppb) levels.
Note: To measure Total Mercury from aqueous sample, the sample must be digested chemically to break down organic mercury before reducing vaporization.Without sample digestion, only the Hg2+ and Hg0 can be measured in this technique.

How Does It Work?
EMP-3 can also be used to measure Natural Gas (NG) or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) collected in a Tedlar bag.Applications
Natural Gas | LPGHow Does It Work?
- Place the EMP-3 setup in a fume hood or connect the EMP-3 outlet to an exhaust line.
- Select NG/LPG (Natural Gas) MEAS GAS on EMP-3.
- Collect the sample gas into a Tedlar bag.
- Connect the Tedlar bag to the EMP-3 probe.
- Sample gas in the Tedlar is drawn directly into EMP-3 to perform auto zeroing followed by measurement.
- Real-time mercury reading will be displayed on the EMP-3 LCD screen.
